Carbonate shelf development and early Paleozoic benthic diversity in Baltica: a hierarchical diversity partitioning approach using brachiopod data

چکیده

Abstract The Ordovician–Silurian (~485–419 Ma) was a time of considerable evolutionary upheaval, encompassing both great diversification and one the first major mass extinctions. Ordovician coincided with global climatic cooling paleocontinental collision, ecological impacts which were mediated by region-specific processes including substrate changes, biotic invasions, tectonic movements. From Sandbian–Katian (~453 onward, an extensive carbonate shelf developed in eastern Baltic paleobasin response to shift tropical latitudes increase abundance calcareous macroorganisms. We quantify contributions environmental differentiation temporal turnover regional diversity through Silurian, using brachiopod occurrences from more shallow-water facies belts paleobasin, epicontinental sea on Baltica paleocontinent. results are consistent development as driver diversification, enhancing broadscale between shallow- deep-marine environments generating heterogeneous that allowed increasing numbers genera coexist. However, also contributed significantly apparent diversity, particularly Middle–Late Ordovician.

Partitioning Species Diversity across Landscapes and Regions: A Hierarchical Analysis of a, b, and g Diversity

Species diversity may be additively partitioned within and among samples (a and b diversity) from hierarchically scaled studies to assess the proportion of the total diversity (g) found in different habitats, landscapes, or regions. We developed a statistical approach for testing null hypotheses that observed partitions of species richness or diversity indices differed from those expected by ch...

Classifier Ensemble Framework: a Diversity Based Approach

Pattern recognition systems are widely used in a host of different fields. Due to some reasons such as lack of knowledge about a method based on which the best classifier is detected for any arbitrary problem, and thanks to significant improvement in accuracy, researchers turn to ensemble methods in almost every task of pattern recognition. Classification as a major task in pattern recognition,...

Capturing diversity and interspecific variability in allometries: A hierarchical approach

There is growing recognition of the role of mechanistic scaling laws in shaping ecological pattern and process. While such theoretical relationships explain much of the variation across large scales, at any particular scale there is important residual variation that is left unexplained among species, among individuals within a species, and within individuals themselves. Key questions remain on ...

Diversity, Abundance and Community Structure of Benthic Macro- and Megafauna on the Beaufort Shelf and Slope

Diversity and community patterns of macro- and megafauna were compared on the Canadian Beaufort shelf and slope. Faunal sampling collected 247 taxa from 48 stations with box core and trawl gear over the summers of 2009-2011 between 50 and 1,000 m in depth. Of the 80 macrofaunal and 167 megafaunal taxa, 23% were uniques, present at only one station. Rare taxa were found to increase proportional ...
